چکیده

One characteristic of reasoning about location is the need to make use of noisy data with a range of possible interpretations. This paper presents four different algorithms that use a location ontology with ONCOR to resolve a value for location information from a range of potentially noisy sensor data, and compare their performance to three other more conventionally used algorithms. Our work takes a radical shift towards making the ontology a pragmatic tool for more than interoperability in UbiComp systems. We report an experiment that logged five people’s locations over three weeks. This enabled us to evaluate the improvement made by introducing an ontology into the location resolution process. The results show that some ONCOR algorithms yield an improvement of 50–63% on average for resolving the finest-grained location values over the Point algorithm.

Context-aware Modeling for Spatio-temporal Data Transmitted from a Wireless Body Sensor Network

Context-aware systems must be interoperable and work across different platforms at any time and in any place. Context data collected from wireless body area networks (WBAN) may be heterogeneous and imperfect, which makes their design and implementation difficult. In this research, we introduce a model which takes the dynamic nature of a context-aware system into consideration. This model is con...

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Personalised and Scrutable Ontological Reasoning for Pervasive Computing

Personalised ontological reasoning o ers much potential for pervasive computing: it should enable reasoning that matches individual views of places and spaces. At the same time, it is critical that users are able to understand and control pervasive applications. One way to achieve this is to build personalised ontologies in ways that support explanations of the personalisation of ontological re...

An OWL-Based Mobile GeoBI Context Ontology Enabling Location-Based and Context-Based Reasoning and Supporting Contextual Business Analysis

Mobile professionals need to be assisted with suitable mobile GeoBI (Geospatial Business Intelligence) systems, which are able to capture, organize and structure the user’s reality into a relevant context model and reason on it. GeoBI context modelling and reasoning are still research issues since there is not yet either a model or a relevant taxonomy regarding GeoBI contextual information. To ...

Using Ontology-based Experiences for Supporting Robot Tasks - Position Paper

In this paper, we consider knowledge needed for interaction tasks of an artificial cognitive system, embodied by a service robot. First, we describe ideas about the use of experiences of a robot for improving its interactivity. Our approach is based on an multilevel ontological representation of knowledge. Thus, ontology-based reasoning techniques can be used for exploiting experiences. A robot...
